How do you train a older male dog to stop peeing on everything? My 4 year old male dog pee's on everything. He pees on my vacume, trash container,etc..He is let outside quite a bit,he gets treats, his food is taken up by 7 p.m,but he does'nt stop peeing on everything.I am totally frustrated. When he gets mad at us for not letting him sleep in bed with us he goes and pees on something. If we go somewhere that we cant take him he pees on everything including our bed..
I love this dog so much.I dont want to part with him but I cant keep cleaning up pee everyday and I cant have our stuff destroyed either.I need help with him because I cant turn my back on him. Please any help or info is greatly appreciated. |
Did you say what kind of dog it was?
It sounds more like he's marking rather than having to go potty.
I would find a really good article on crate training - unfortunately mine didn't come off the web. I would go back and treat him as if he was a puppy and retrain him. You CAN do it, but have to be very diligent and patient.
Also- I think there is a product you can put on him while he's out and about for marking - it's called a belly band or something like that for male dogs to prevent them from hiking their leg on the furnature. |
Why is our adult male dog peeing ON our new puppy? We brought home a new puppy and I am trying to socialize him with our other male. The puppy is doing great but the older dog keeps peeing on my new puppy even if I am holding the puppy. Then I get peed on. What is going on? Sounds funny but I assure you it is not. |
marking his stuff
you adult dog owns the puppy now |
Fixed male started peeing all over house? Fixed male has started peeing all over house. I thought female was too young to be spayed, I am getting her spayed. Why is fixed male peeing all over house? |
| he's either A) Really mad at you B) still healing from the nuetering or C) the litter box is dirty.... C) is what my cat does when the litter box is dirty. Gross but taught me a lesson! |
How can we stop our male dog peeing in the house? Our 12-year old male dog nearly always pees when we leave the house. There is another younger male, and a ***** in the house. We can't catch him at it. We have tried getting cross, using vinegar etc on the areas, but nothing works. |
I'm afraid, at 12 years old, although it might be possible to get him castrated, if he has always been like this, there are no guarantees castration is going to make the slightest difference, even if he's fit enough to undergo the surgery, especially the general anaesthetic. And what he's doing may have nothing to do with his 'maleness' in any case.
He may be protesting at being left. He may also have an infection going on. So you firstly need to get that checked out - take a sample of his urine into your vet when you take him in for a health check. This is more likely to be the problem if this is something new.
It is possible that if the other two are entire, he is being territorial. If this is the case, I'd get the other two neutered so he knows he has nothing to be territorial about. It could also be as simple as he's elderly, and not able to hold his pee as he used to be - there are treatments for incontinence too.
So, first off, vet trip. Secondly I suggest you confine him somewhere it doesn't really matter if he makes a mistake when you go out. |
How can i stop my male dog peeing on the flower pots on my patio? I do have an area set aside for toilet use, my female dog uses it, but the male wont pee there - even though there IS a tree there for his usage.
My patio pots are starting to pong, please help!
I know i could scrub them down, but its not a nice job and i have lots of pots! |
hi the reason your dog is spraying the pots is because his scent is present on them and he considers that his territory now dogs are very habitual creatures and as long as the smell is around the pots its difficult if not impossible to stop him here are a couple of ideas to help:
1, would it be possible to put him on a leash and walk him away from the pots in time the scent will dissipate
2, you need something strong to kill the odour something like jeyes fluid is good it will deodourise effectively but you must keep your pets away from those areas as its pretty harmful stuff
3. if none of the above are possible when he goes out stay out with him and when he goes to tinkle on the pots tell him no in a short sharp manner try raising your voice a bit too direct him to the area where you do want him to do it and eventually he will get the hang of it may take some time but it will work in the long run just adopt the patient and firm approach for best results good luck hope this helps |
How do I stop my male cats from peeing down the heat register? there are 2 females and 3 males in the house ......the only ones 2 males are peeing down my heat register as well as spraying on the inside of my wood front door. The litter boxes are kept clean(3 of them) and I dont know what to do....any suggestions???? |
something else that seems to help: if you keep your problem cats confined to just one room in the house for a while until they start just using the litterbox to eliminate, that can help. While they're confined, that's when you use something that will actually get rid of the pee smell from where they were peeing (though peeing down the register... that's a rough one... are ya gonna take apart the duct work?)
After they've been peeing in the box regularly, it seems to help to keep the cats in the room after they've eaten for two hours until you are sure they've finished their 'business' and then you can let them out of the room to play with the rest of the household. If they make another mistake, then back to confinement for another week or so. Somehow, most cats seem to get the point that if they pee where they're not supposed to, then they get to sit in the boring room.
It's a lot of work, but it's either that or live in a house of pee. |
My male cat wont stop peeing around the house in front of us.? I have two 8 month old male cats. They are both getting fixed tomorrow and just the other day my more dominate male started peeing in front of us all around our house. He meows constantly and also tries mating with the other male cat! What do I do? |
| have the vet check for a urinary tract infection |
What can I do about my male pug peeing in the house? I can leave him outside for 2 or 3 hours going out there with him periodically. He will use the bathroom multiple times, but when he comes in he still smells around and pees. I have a female pug aslo and the male does it all the time not only when she is in heat. Please help. Thanks and God Bless |
| Get both animals spade or neutered. That will put a dent in the territorial peeing issues. I have also heard that if you put some vinegar on a cloth and wipe it on their nose when they do that, it will deter them. Its like you are marking your territory back. Remember to spay or neuter you pets ASAP. |
Why is my neutered male cat suddenly peeing on his toys? Why is my neutered male cat suddenly peeing on or in his toys? This has happened a couple of times in the past few months. Also, how can I pinpoint the location of cat pee in my carpets? I tried a 60 watt black light bulb in the area that I smell the pee but that didn't seem to work. Thanks in advance for your help! |
| Try an ultraviolet light. Your cat has lost its "manhood" so it feel that it has to mark its own territory now. |
How can I stop my male poodle from peeing on the floor & furniture? I have grown up with poodles. About two years ago, we adopted a new male poodle after ours passed away from cancer. He is a sweet baby, but we are still having a problem with him peeing on everything. At first we thought, he was marking his territory, but he's the only animal in the house & has been since we got him. He has enough allergies & asthma (breathing problems) that the vet is afraid he will die if he is given anesthesia to be neutered, so I am looking for other ideas. |
| I think that maybe he is just marking his territory because he can still smell your other dog. You should wash everything in your house. Even wash down that walls at his height because your other dog could have rubbed on them. Maybe even buy your dog his own new toys. Throw out any other toys that belonged to other dogs. If this doesn't work maybe you should try rubbing his face in his uran because he may finally learn that it is not okay to do that. Well good luck! |
